The royal wedding

During the last week the number of fires has increased disquietingly. The façade of the rich and harmonious Swedish society, that the government is trying to keep up, is falling into pieces and this during the most inappropriate time in Sweden’s history ever, the royal family’s and the community’s preparation for the royal wedding between the crown princess Victoria and her husband and prince to be.

The discrepancy of the glamorous wedding and the ferocious fire-raising in the suburbs is striking. The immigrants in the suburbs of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Tynnered, Malmo, Halmstad, Boras and Sodertalje and so on seem to have a certain grudge against schools (the list’s number two to set on fire after cars – almost 1 000 cars were set on fire in 2009 according to the Swedish TV News “Rapport”), since they are the buildings that are mostly set on fire. In 2009, 457 schools were reduced to ashes, which is a redoubling over the last ten years. This amounts to more than a school every day the year around. Only in Gothenburg, about ten fires were staged in one night the last week.

Let’s look a bit further into what happened int the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby on the 9 and 10 June, where the police station and also the newly built school were burnt out. Some young med in their twenties were not let into an end-of-term party. For two nights they ran amok.

The firemen couldn’t start putting out the fire directly, since they were attacked by the perpetrators with paving-stones. They cannot turn out without police escort any longer, and in this case, the police was not even a protection. Nowadays this is normalized behaviour among immigrant youths and young immigrant men in these suburbs when the fire brigade arrive. So the authorities have now decided to remove all the paving-stones from Rinkeby.

One of the perpetrators was interviewed on the TV news. With a hidden face, he says with his immigrant accent: “We don’t have anything against the fire brigade. It’s the police that we are att war with”.

The police station in Rinkeby

The image above says everything about the breakdown of Sweden’s police. It is the assailants who have the power and the orderly people have to hide. The hooligans state that they are provoked by the police, but it is an excuse. The police make up the last obstacle for them to take over and strike all society with terror. Yet another explanation is that the police is not enough severe. They don’t seize the youths that commit crimes. Instead crime becomes something trendy. Without punishment for the terror the youths become increasingly cocky. At last there is an outburst.

The police and the Swedish judicial system have surrendered. Crime is not taken seriously any longer and that is why criminality is allowed to spread. The police only turn out when the crime is far too apparent and then it is too late.

Even though the monarchy in one way is an anachronism, it could play an important role in stabilizing a Sweden that is falling to pieces. We should not be forced to hope for the monarchy to catch at a straw, but when popularly elected politicians don’t want to face the problems and take on the responsibility, and when their silence is deafening, there are not many alternatives left. And a monarchical action is indeed far better than a military one.
